Kobayashi Issa

A number of recent events and discussions have left me contemplating mortality and the ending of things. I do not have words for the joys and losses that life represents, but here is a poem from Kobayashi Issa, one of Japan's most famous haiku poets. Even translated into English, I think it resonates.
What shall I leave behind?
Empty skies.
Fields. Dandelions.
Birds swooping.
Farewell. Farewell.
Hands waving in the mist.
--Issa.
