While working on the 8 step jo kata, I commented that the footwork was the same as happo undo. One of the newer students replied that she did not know the footwork for shiho and happo undo. Since the class was small, we stopped and focused on just the footwork. With plenty of time and no pressure to move to anything else, we worked on the pivots and turns until she felt confident enough to the return to the kata and add the cuts and pokes of the jo to her movements.

As we were leaving class, she turned to me and said, "Well, now you can go home and post that you really taught something tonight."
