The taiso are a set of exercises, developed by Koichi Tohei Sensei to help teach the core movements of Aikido. We normally perform them in a set sequence at the beginning of class. Tonight Shihan put an extra focus on certain ones, stopping to observe and offer specific direction and adjustments. I went to look for a video of the specific exercise, Sayu Kosa Undo, that I was struggling with, and haven't found it yet.
What I did find was an video of Koichi Tohei Sensei performing an early set of the taiso and some other ki exercises. Our taiso has more specific exercises, as did many of the videos I found, but this one caught my attention. It is a look back into an earlier era in the art and the taiso as it was performed by it's developer.
